The Block-Kids Building Program is a national building program competition that is co-sponsored locally by Chapter #50 and the West Family YMCA. This popular program introduces children to the construction industry in an effort to create an awareness of and to promote an interest in future careers in one of the many facets of the industry.
Participants receive 100 plastic, interlocking building blocks, a piece of string and a piece of aluminum foil to create a building project in 45 minutes. They are encouraged to look for creative solutions to construction challenges.
The entrants will be judged by members of the Quad Cities building community, and prizes are awarded to the top three entrants. The project chosen by the judges as the most noteworthy will be entered in a regional contest. Winners at the regional level will then be entered in a national contest.
The program is open to all elementary school children in grades 1-6. Pre-registration is strongly recommended but if there are openings or cancellations registrations will be taken the morning of the event. Registration forms will be posted here on the website. There is no fee to register
